"Practical, effective, hands-on learning. Likely the best Outdoor related purchase I've ever made."
— WSWFT Graduate

Boreal Wilderness Institute's Wilderness Survival Winter Field Trek is a journey where participants have a chance to really practice advanced wilderness survival skills and discover the resources of the winter boreal forest. This course is a 5-day trek in the Canadian Wilderness that allows you continue your training beyond the Wilderness Survival Winter Field Session. It is designed to be a learning experience where you will be challenged as you travel through the winter forest environment.

"The course was a wonderful learning experience with knowledgeable instructors, which allowed lots of time to actually practice the skills we were learning."
— WSWFT Graduate

Instruction will be ongoing during the trip and you will be learning as you travel. The emphasis will be on building survival skills, natural navigation, shelter building, winter travel skills, and advanced tool building. One night will be spent on at a Solo Camp and all other nights in various small group shelters. Our camps will be set-up in the boreal forest and each will have its own rustic character. This course allows you to take the next step by integrating survival and wilderness living skills with wilderness travel skills.

"Each Winter Trek is different, the time just sails by..."
— WSWFT Instructor

"The trip itself is a lot of fun - provided you are reasonably comfortable outdoors. I had a great time hiking though the winter woods and building structures and tools with minimal equipment. It is a course worth taking just for the fun of the activity. I would highly recommend it to anyone who can enjoy the outdoors without a feather mattress."
— WSWFT Graduate

This trek includes suppers, breakfasts, cooking equipment, shelter materials, snowshoes (if needed), and group safety equipment. All participants are responsible for basic camping gear, clothing, lunches, and snacks. This programme links together with the Wilderness Survival Core Seminar and the Wilderness Survival Winter Field Session for a Complete 8 Day Winter Survival Programme which runs in the 2nd full week of March each year. Participants will earn BWI's Survival Certificate on successful completion of this course

"The Winter Survival Course was definitely worth the time and money to take. It is, however, very specialized. For this reason, the information and skills taught are probably the best available for survival in the boreal forest..."
