Interested in getting off marked trails? A range of well designed Wilderness Navigation courses are available today. Our Wilderness Navigation courses integrate the use of GPS Receivers with topographical maps, and magnetic compass; what we describe as the “Navigators Toolbelt”. All these components are now basic safety gear for anyone traveling into the wilderness. BWI's courses provide a solid foundation based on proper professional instruction in all areas of wilderness navigation.
A GPS Receiver is definitely a fine addition, although not a replacement for a Topographical Map, an Air Photo, a Quality Compass, Pace Beads, an Altimeter, and skill in Wilderness Navigation. A GPS Receiver is an excellent navigation tool that will aid a wilderness navigator while traveling through the toughest terrain. It is best to think of a GPS Receiver as another tool that should be added to the “toolbelt” of the wilderness navigator. Before you start your next journey into the wilderness learn to use all the tools in your Navigators Toolbelt correctly. We are a professional wilderness navigation school second to none and can provide the expert instruction you need for safe wilderness travel.
